As high-achieving women, we often find ourselves striving to maintain control—over our work, our schedules, our families, and even our futures. The need to feel "in control" can feel empowering, but in reality, it often creates tension, stress, and ultimately a cycle of frustration. Why? Because control is fleeting. It’s an illusion that leads us into an endless loop of stress and disappointment when things don’t go exactly as planned.
The Cycle of Stress and Control
When we attempt to control every detail of our lives, we unconsciously place ourselves in a cycle of resistance. We’re fighting against the natural flow of life, which in turn creates more stress. The more we try to control, the more we realize how little control we actually have. This breeds anxiety and exhaustion, leaving us depleted. Do you see the cycle?
The key is not to tighten our grip but to LET GO. Paradoxically, letting go doesn’t mean losing control; in fact, it allows us to reclaim true control, something that I like to call, Empowered Calm. By releasing the need to micromanage every outcome, we invite more peace, clarity, and ease into our lives. When we flow with life rather than resist it, things begin to work out in our favor.
Letting Go Gives You More Control
The power of letting go is transformative. Think of it as the difference between swimming upstream and letting the current carry you. One is exhausting, while the other feels effortless. The same principle applies to your life. You have a choice: FIGHT or go with the FLOW.
So, who’s really in control? Do you know who your Father is…your Higher Power that guides you? Let go, and allow your INNER POWER to flow through you. When you surrender to the flow, you don’t lose power—you gain the ultimate power, peace, and clarity that comes from trusting something bigger than yourself. This Empowered Calm allows you to show up more fully in your life, with greater focus, resilience, and joy.
Empowered Calm Through Breath
One of the easiest and most effective ways to begin letting go is through your breath. The breath is our constant, yet often overlooked, companion. It anchors us in the present moment and helps us release tension, both physically and mentally, and so much more.
One of the activities I enjoy doing is guiding people through a simple breathing experience to help them to reconnect and tap into their Empowered Calm. So take a moment right now, to close your eyes, and breathe deeply. Inhale through your nose, hold for a few moments, and then exhale through your mouth as you release any tension and relax in the moment. Repeat this cycle several times. As you breathe, simply observe your thoughts and feelings without judgment. Notice how, with each exhale, you're letting go of stress, tension, and the need to control.
Practicing a simple breathing exercise is just the beginning. Imagine what it would feel like to live each day with this same sense of calm, no matter what life throws your way.
